Earlier this month, MetaProp NYC announced the launch of the MetaProp Pre-Accelerator at Columbia University, the world’s first PropTech pre-accelerator program. Working with CURE (Columbia Center for Urban Real Estate), the pre-accelerator will connect first-time, earliest-stage PropTech entrepreneurs to sources of seed capital, real estate and technology mentors, and technology education.
To kick-off the initiative, the new partnership is hosting an event called FormForward, illustrating its commitment to global thought leadership in advanced PropTech development by showcasing the next generation of technology to be applied to the built world. At the event, some of the leading minds in PropTech will predict the future of the real estate industry and the challenges technology can solve.
As New York City’s only Ivy League institution, Columbia University has access to deep technology and the broad resources of top students, alumni and faculty in real estate and computer science. Josh Panknin, CURE’s Director of Real Estate Technology Initiatives, expects that Columbia will soon be known as the institutional thought leader for new PropTech ideation and research. “We expect to be known immediately as the premier global PropTech academics institution. In addition, we are building a pipeline of corporate funding partners for research and academic programming, while engaging students, alumni, faculty and administration in this effort,” says Panknin.
MetaProp NYC Co-Founder and Managing Director Aaron Block says MetaProp NYC will now be known for bringing PropTech’s best entrepreneurs from ideation to IPO. “Our partnership with Columbia strengthens greatly our goal to bring PropTech startups from the thinking stage to the business stage. Our program will make a big impact on the PropTech community this year, as we intend to solve some of the real estate industry’s biggest problems.”
In a just-published blog post on the MetaProp NYC website, Founders Aaron Block and Josh Panknin provide more backstory about their groundbreaking partnership and the MetaProp Pre-Accelerator at Columbia University. An intensive 8-week program, the Pre-Accelerator will admit up to five very early stage teams/entrepreneurs beginning this Spring. Participants will receive industry mentoring and access to early product feedback, as well as business and technology training from leaders at MetaProp NYC and Columbia University.Interested Pre-Accelerator applicants, Columbia students and alumni, and the public are invited to attend next week’s FormForward event. Featured speakers will include Zach Aarons, Co-Founder, MetaProp NYC; John J. Gilbert III, EVP & COO, Rudin Management Company; James von Klemperer, President, KPF Architects; Cindy McLaughlin, CEO, Envelope.City, and Luc Wilson, Director, KPF Urban Interface.
Sponsored by the Ornamental Metal Institute of New York, the event will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Times Center, located at 242 West 41st Street, Manhattan. To register, visit https://cureformforward2017.eventbrite.com
